Remembering Junior Seau, NBA Playoffs and Baseball rants

Junior Seau was 43 years old when he took his life Wednesday. The 12 time pro bowler and 10 time All pro team left behind a great legacy, but opened the door for researchers to study the impact of brain injuries. In Seau's final years he was arrested for domestic violence and also survived a suicide attempt after driving off a 100 foot cliff (Seau later refuted those allegations) Maybe those 1,849 tackles played a factor in Junior's death. Seau's family donated his brain to research and we will find out if Seau's career impacted his personal life off-the field. He was a good player and also a community figure in the San Diego area. You will be greatly missed and definitely a first ballot hall of famer.

1994 San Diego Chargers
Seau's death marked the 8th Charger from the 1994 AFC Championship Chargers team to die in the last 15 years. David Griggs, Doug Miller and Rodney Culver died in 1995, 1996 and 5 more including Junior Seau died in the past 4 years. Its sad to read this and puts you in the mind of the 1995-1996 Los Angeles Clippers team. Although 7 of the 8 deaths are not tied to football related injuries Seau's death is the only death that was suicide which could be attributed by on field play. David Griggs LB for the Chargers in 1994,  died from injuries sustained in a automobile accident just months after losing in the Super Bowl in 1995. Doug Miller died from being struck by lightning in 95. Rodney Culver RB for the Chargers died in the Spring of 1996, when he and his wife were involved in a fatal plane crash. In 2008, C Curtis Whitley passed away from a drug overdose. The following year Former first round pick Chris Mims died from congestive heart failure and Shawn Lee and Lew Bush both died of heart attacks in 2011. Its sad to these players leave so son and Junior's death marks another sad casualty of the 1994 San Diego Chargers.

NBA

Tonight's playoff schedule features 4 games with each have a 3-1 series lead. I am picking all teams to finish off their opponents tonight. I hate to the Bulls go down without Rose and Noah they will not beat Philadelphia. The Howardless Magic will be sent home tonight by Indiana. Lakers will knock off Denver to advance. And finally the ageless wonders of the Boston Celtics will beat the Hawks to face Indiana next round. Interesting playoffs but I'm ready for round 2.

MLB

Welcome to the big leagues Bryce

Washington Nationals prized outfielder Bryce Harper is making a name for himself being in the majors for a week the 19 yr old star has fond his niche in the big leagues.......... But Philadelphia Phillies P Cole Hamels wanted to make a statement by drilling Harper in the back "INTENTIONALLY". Hamels admitted to hitting  him on purpose and was suspended by the MLB for 5 games. Not a smart move. Like they say stop snitching and specially on yourself smh

Baltimore Orioles

Currently the Baltimore Orioles have the best record in Majors being 19-8 winning 7 out the past 10 games. Led by manager Buck Showalter, Baltimore can be legit contenders coming out the AL East. But not the Orioles are in the same division as the Tampa Bay Rays, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and the Toronto Blue Jays. The Orioles are in serious competition. If they can continue swinging the bats and their pitching is up to par they can hopefully obtain a AL wildcard seed. Its a month into a season and 135 games left a lot can change from now.

The Year of Injuries

In all of sports we have seen numerous superstars go down with serious injuries. Dwight Howard with a herniated disc. Derrick Rose (Torn ACL), Mariano Rivera (Torn ACL), Terrell Suggs (Torn ACL) and numerous other big name athletes went down with significant injuries this year. Out of all my years watching sports I have never seen so many big named athletes go down with serious injuries and most notably ACL tears. Iman Shumpert and Derrick Rose tore theirs two hours apart and three weeks later 7 NBA, NFL and MLB tore theirs respectively. Its very odd to see a lot of these injuries happening so close together and I would personally extend my wishes to those athletes for speedy recoveries
